El base español Sergio Rodríguez por fin ha conseguido lo que quería: salir de Portland.
El único pero está en su destino, Sacramento. Un equipo que lleva unos cuantos años desaparecido, pero que puede darle al base canario los minutos que necesita en la NBA.
Dentro del acuerdo entre Portland y Sacramento también están los derechos del número 38 del draft celebrado ayer, Jon Brockman, además de una cantidad de dinero, a cambio del número 31 del draft, Jeff Pendergraph, cuyos derechos son ahora de los Trail Blazers.
Por unos momentos, se produjo un hecho histórico, ya que hubo en un mismo equipo de la NBA tres jugadores españoles: Sergio Rodríguez, Rudy Fernández y Víctor Claver, seleccionado ayer por Portland en el número 22 del draft universitario. Pero duró poco.
Sergio llega a un equipo en plena fase de reconstrucción con Paul Westphal como nuevo entrenador, al que le gusta el juego de saque rápido y en el mismo el base canario podrá ser un elemento clave.
En declaraciones a marca.com, el base canario se mostró muy contento: "Todo lo que sea que un equipo confíe en mí es importantísimo. Me gusta el equipo, la ciudad y, sobre todo, el entrenador".
"Era importante salir de Portland, lo necesitaba. Estaba en un túnel y no veía la salida. Ahora ya la tengo", añadió.
En Sacramento coincidirá con el argentino Andrés Nocioni, ex jugador del TAU Vitoria.
