El Tribunal Supremo (TS) ha confirmado la absolución del presidente de Telefónica, César Alierta, en el "caso Tabacalera" al considerar prescrito el delito de uso de información privilegiada del que estaba acusado por comprar acciones de la empresa tabaquera en 1997.
Según informaron a Efe fuentes conocedoras de la sentencia, el fallo ha sido adoptado por unanimidad de todos los magistrados de la Sala de lo Penal del TS que se han encargado de revisar los recursos planteados por Alierta, su sobrino Luis Javier Placer y el Ministerio Fiscal contra la sentencia absolutoria de la Audiencia Provincial de Madrid.
Ese órgano entendió en julio de 2009 que había prescrito el delito -que permitió al ex presidente de Tabacalera y a su sobrino Luis Javier Placer obtener un beneficio de 1,86 millones de euros-, ya que habían transcurrido más de cinco años desde que se materializó el mismo hasta que se admitió a trámite la querella de una asociación de consumidores que denunciaba los hechos.
