La retirada por parte de RTVE de la candidatura de la periodista Karmele Marchante de la lista de candidatos a representar a España en Eurovisión es una medida "discriminatoria y anticonstitucional", afirmó hoy en un comunicado un portavoz de Telecinco.
Karmele Marchante, colaborada del programa de Telecinco "Sálvame", encabezaba la lista de los 10 candidatos más votados en la web de RTVE con alrededor de 100.000 votos, y RTVE consideró que su candidatura, además de las otros tres artistas (Chimo Bayo, Kejío y Juan Losada), debían ser excluidas por no reunir todas las exigencias establecidas por la Unión Europea de Radiodifusión (UER) o en las bases del concurso.
Según el portavoz de Telecinco, "no se puede pedir la opinión popular si luego se descalifica arbitrariamente al candidato más votado por la gente. Esto sólo demuestra que a la dirección de RTVE le da miedo la democracia".
La nota del portavoz de la cadena de Mediaset añade que "no entendemos por qué un candidato de La Sexta puede llegar a Eurovisión, y no uno de Telecinco", en referencia a la edición del año pasado, cuando concursó por España Rodolfo Chikilicuatre.
La periodista Karmele Marchante se presentó al concurso con el nombre de Pop Star Queen y la canción "Soy un Tsunami", que la cadena pública retiró ayer de su página web.
RTVE recordaba en una nota que "la organización de la selección de los aspirantes a representar a España en el Festival de Eurovisión 2010 se reserva el derecho a expulsar del concurso a cualquier cantante o grupo que no cumpla con la bases legales en cualquier momento del proceso", aunque no detalló las causas de la expulsión.
