Un tribunal de Argentina confirmó hoy la condena a cadena perpetua para Jorge Rafael Videla, primer presidente de la última dictadura argentina (1976-1983), a la que fue condenado en 2010 por vejaciones cometidas durante el régimen de facto.
El Centro de Información Judicial informó de que la sentencia condenatoria fue confirmada por la Cámara Federal de Casación Penal, que también dejó firme la condena a prisión perpetua para el exgeneral Luciano Benjamín Menéndez, exjefe del Tercer Cuerpo del Ejército.
El tribunal también confirmó las condenas a otros 19 imputados y mantuvo las absoluciones de Osvaldo Cesar Quiroga y Francisco Pablo D'Aloia.
Por otra parte, revocó la absolución dictada por el tribunal de juicio respecto de Gustavo Adolfo Salgado, que será sometido a un nuevo juicio.
La condena a prisión perpetua que recibió Videla en diciembre de 2010, en un juicio celebrado en la provincia de Córdoba, fue la primera desde el Juicio a las Juntas Militares de 1985.
Videla, de 86 años, Menéndez, de 84, y el resto de los acusados fueron llevados a juicio por el asesinato de 31 presos de la Unidad Penitenciaria San Martín de Córdoba, conocida como UP1, y por los secuestros y torturas en 1976 de seis víctimas señaladas por el régimen como "infiltrados de organizaciones revolucionarias".
Durante el proceso oral, por el que desfilaron más de un centenar de testigos, se escucharon crudos relatos de la represión.
