El Gobierno de Turquía anunció hoy que ha llamado a su embajador en Israel a consultas en protesta por el abordaje israelí de una flota con ayuda humanitaria para la franja de Gaza, al tiempo que exigió la convocatoria de una reunión de emergencia del Consejo de Seguridad de la ONU.
El viceprimer ministro turco, Bülent Arinç, dijo asimismo que Turquía ha suspendido sus maniobras militares con Israel, país con el que había forjado una fuerte relación económica y castrense.
Por su parte, el ministro de Asuntos Exteriores, Ahmet Davutoglu, se trasladará hoy a Nueva York para exigir la convocatoria del Consejo de Seguridad de la ONU, al que Turquía pertenece como miembro no permanente.
"Este incidente pone de relieve una vez más la temeridad de Israel. Es una mancha negra en la historia de la Humanidad", dijo Arinç, quien reconoció que el Ejecutivo turco aún no dispone de datos fiables sobre el número de muertos y heridos en el ataque a la llamada "Flota de la Libertad".
Aun así descartó enviar un barco militar turco a la zona donde se produjo el suceso hasta que se valoren diversas iniciativas "civiles" y se trate el asunto con el Estado Mayor del Ejército.
Arinç anunció que pedirá a la Organización de la Conferencia Islámica, a la Unión Europea y la Liga Árabe que se reúnan para valorar los hechos en carácter de urgencia.
Por otra parte, una selección turca de categoría inferior no jugará un partido de fútbol previsto para hoy en Israel.
