Los embajadores permanentes ante la Unión Europea (UE) de los países miembros volvieron hoy a fracasar en su intento de convencer a Holanda de la conveniencia de hacer un gesto de acercamiento a Serbia para premiar la captura de Radovan Karadzik, según informaron a Efe fuentes diplomáticas.
El Comité de Representantes de los Gobiernos de los Estados Miembros de la UE (COREPER) se reunió hoy, por segunda vez, para intentar desbloquear lo que los ministros de Asuntos Exteriores dejaron pendiente el martes pasado, también por la oposición de Holanda: ofrecer al menos beneficios comerciales a Belgrado.
La Haya insiste en negarse a firmar ni tan siquiera la parte interina (o comercial) del Acuerdo de Asociación y Estabilización con Serbia, a pesar de que una "abrumadora mayoría" de los países miembros lo considera "urgente".
Holanda alega que debe consultar a su Parlamento, así como esperar a la llegada de Karadzic al Tribunal Penal Internacional para la antigua Yugoslavia (TPIY), que en principio se producirá este misma semana.
También recuerdan que están pendientes las conclusiones del fiscal jefe del Tribunal, Serge Brammertz, sobre si las autoridades serbias están ofreciendo su plena colaboración.
A juicio de La Haya, sin la detención de otros fugitivos como el ex general Ratko Mladic, Serbia no habrá cumplido las condiciones que fijó la UE para firmar un acuerdo que permitiría su futura adhesión.
El Gobierno holandés dimitió en pleno en 2002 para asumir la responsabilidad política de la masacre de casi 8.000 bosnios-musulmanes en el enclave de Srebrenica, una zona protegida por un batallón de cascos azules holandeses.
