El tenista español Fernando Verdasco, número siete del ránking mundial de la ATP, ha declarado hoy que ésta es "la mejor temporada" de su carrera, tras recibir el premio de la Asociación de Periodistas de Tenis (ATP) como Jugador 10 del Torneo Conde de Godó 2009.
"Esta temporada es la mejor de mi carrera sin lugar a dudas", aseguró el madrileño, que después de prepararse durante un mes en Las Vegas a principios de este año ha vuelto al circuito con ganas de "ganar más premios".
Después de derrotar ayer al ecuatoriano Nicolás Lapentti (6-4, 2-6, 6-2) y de clasificarse para los octavos de final del Godó, Verdasco se enfrentará hoy al checo Thomas Berdych, en un partido que ha calificado como "duro".
"A lo mejor (Berdych) no está teniendo su mejor año, pero todo el mundo sabe de su potencial y si tiene un buen día es un jugador muy complicado porque tiene unos golpes muy potentes", consideró.
No obstante, el español señaló su buen estado físico y que se siente "cómodo" de jugar en casa. "Vengo de una buena racha de partidos y espero seguir con esa racha, ganando partidos y llegar lo más lejos posible en el Godó", concluyó.
La APT, que el año pasado premió a las jugadoras del equipo español de la Copa Federación, también reconoció la labor de Emilio Sánchez Vicario como capitán de la Copa Davis la pasada temporada.
