El nadador español Aschwin Wildeboer se clasificó para nadar mañana la final de los 100 metros espalda, mientras que su compatriota Juan Miguel Rando se quedó en las semifinales de los Campeonatos de Europa de Budapest.
Wildeboer hizo el sexto mejor tiempo de los clasificados, pero lejos del francés Camille Lacourt, que sorprendió a todos esta tarde al volver a batir el récord de los campeonatos que él mismo había establecido por la mañana en la misma piscina.
Lacourt hizo 52.58 para ganar a Wildeboer con 54.46, medallista de bronce el año pasado en Roma en esta distancia. El francés había hecho por la mañana 53.27.
Por su parte, Rando fue sexto en la serie con 54.80, un tiempo que le dejó en la duodécima plaza fuera de los ocho que nadarán mañana por la tarde la final.
En la final de los 400 libre, el francés Yannick Agnel, que cumplió 18 años hace dos meses, se proclamó campeón continental al doblegar al alemán Paul Biedermann, campeón del mundo de los 200 libre, y al húngaro Gergo Kis con un tiempo de 3:46.17 por 3:46.30 del germano y 3:48.14 del magiar.
La británica Hannah Miley venció en la final de los 400 libre y batió el récord de los campeonatos que estaba en poder de la ucraniana Yana Klochkova, desde julio de 2002, en 4:35.10. La medallista de oro paró el crono en 4:33.09 por 4:36.43 de la húngara Katinka Hosszu, segunda, y de la compatriota de ésta Zsuzsanna Kakabos, bronce con 4:37.42.
