Yahoo! planea despedir a más de 650 empleados, lo que representa aproximadamente el 5% de su plantilla, que a finales de octubre ascendía a 14.100 trabajaores, según adelantan medios estadounidenses que citan fuentes conocedoras de la situación.
En concreto, los recortes de personal se centrarán en el área de producto de la multinacional californiana, la división encargada del diseño e implementación de servicios publicitarios y de consumo dirigida por el ex ejecutivo de Microsoft Blake Irving, fichado hace ocho meses por la consejera delegada de la empresda, Carol Bartz.
The New York Times señala que la medida forma parte de los esfuerzos de Bartz para devolver a Yahoo! a una posición destacada en Internet, dominada por Facebook en el segmento de redes sociales y por Google en el de las búsquedas.
Por su parte, el blog especializado en nuevas tecnologías e Internet AllThingsDigital apunta que los despidos serán notificados hoy.
