El jefe del Gobierno, José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, ha pedido al ministro de Interior, Alfredo Pérez Rubalcaba, que traslade su felicitación a la Policía Nacional por su espléndido trabajo en la operación contra ETA que ha permitido detener a Jurdan Martitegi, considerado el máximo dirigente de la banda.
Martitegi ha sido detenido esta tarde, junto a otras dos personas, en las proximidades de la localidad francesa de Perpiñán, en una operación conjunta de la policía judicial francesa y la Policía Nacional.
Zapatero, según han informado a Efe fuentes del Gobierno, ha estado puntualmente informado desde última hora de la mañana por Rubalcaba de la operación que estaba abierta en Francia contra la banda terrorista.
Tras conocer la culminación de esa operación, el jefe del Ejecutivo ha pedido a Rubalcaba que felicite en su nombre a la Policía Nacional por el espléndido trabajo realizado.
Esta mañana, en su intervención ante el Comité Federal del PSOE (en la que estaba presente también el ministro de Interior), Zapatero ha condenado y rechazado "con la máxima contundencia" las amenazas contra el futuro Gobierno vasco lanzadas por la banda terrorista ETA.
"No nos intimidan", ha proclamado, antes de garantizar que los terroristas saben que las Fuerzas y Cuerpos de Seguridad del Estado seguirán combatiendo la violencia hasta que llegue su final.
