Google ha anunciado que ha hecho públicas las versiones para Mac OS X y Linux de su navegador de Internet, Chrome.
De momento solo se trata de una versión en pruebas dirigida a desarrolladores y programadores, por lo que la compañía ha advertido que muchas funciones aún no están optimizadas.
Hasta el momento, Chrome, el navegador de código abierto de Google, que abandonó su fase en pruebas a finales de 2008, ha sido una aplicación que sólo estaba disponible para el sistema operativo Windows de Microsoft. Pero, tras las primeras y positivas evaluaciones, la presión de numerosos usuarios de equipos con el sistema operativo de Apple o Linux ha obligado a la compañía del buscador a acelerar sus planes para el lanzamiento de nuevas versiones compatibles.
Google, que mejoró el navegador presentando una nueva versión en marzo, asegura que ha estado trabajando duro para reconstruir algunos elementos de Chrome para hacerlo compatible, como la interfaz gráfica y su capacidad para realizar procesos invisibles al usuario.
Google ofrece tres versiones de Chrome: 'estable', 'beta' y 'para desarrolladores'. La edición para Mac OS X y Linux se enmarca dentro de esta última categoría.
La cuota de mercado de Internet Explorer continúa cayendo mes a mes desde el último año. El sector de los navegadores se reparte mayoritariamente entre el navegador de Microsoft (65,5%) y la propuesta de Mozilla, Firefox (22,5%).
Por detrás, Safari es el navegador más utilizado en los ordenadores de Apple (8,4%). Sorprende la cifra conseguida con Chrome con solo nueve meses en el mercado (1,8%). Otras propuestas, como Netscape y Opera aún no han conseguido alcanzar el 1% de la cuota de mercado de navegadores de Internet.
