El Distrito C de Telefónica (Madrid), con más de 12.000 trabajadores, es uno de los recintos empresariales más grandes de Europa. En él iniciará la compañía española la expansión de la tecnología NFC, que permite el pago de productos o el acceso a espacios acercando el teléfono a unos lectores especiales. En esta primera fase se ha equipado a mil trabajadores con los elementos tecnológicos necesarios para utilizar las posibilidades del NFC: un móvil con este sistema, una nueva SIM que admite estas opciones y la correspondiente aplicación que asocia tarjetas de crédito o débito y de acceso con el terminal.
La idea es que este proyecto crezca más allá de las fronteras del complejo y que el NFC sea incorporado por los centros comerciales cercanos. De hecho, Telefónica, Vodafone y Orange tienen un acuerdo abierto a otras operadoras para impulsar el NFC en España. Telefónica insiste en que la tarjeta SIM es "el elemento más fiable que los ciudadanos llevan ya en su bolsillo". Como elementos de seguridad añadidos, cada usuario puede programar un código que dé acceso a la aplicación de pago. En este proyecto, los abonos superiores a 20 euros requieren introducir además un PIN que facilitará la entidad bancaria a la que se asocien los pagos.
El presidente de Telefónica España, Guillermo Ansaldo, auguró ayer que esta tecnología adquirirá un volumen importante en el segundo semestre del año que viene. Según la consultora ABI Research, más de 260 millones de dispositivos incorporarán NFC en 2014.
