La costumbre nacional de coger prestado lo que uno tiene al alcance se ha hecho aún más popular con la llegada de las conexiones a internet inalámbricas. Las redes Wi-Fi al alcance de cualquier router ha provocado que muchos españoles naveguen por internet aprovechando los servicios que pagan sus vecinos.
Pero hoy, la Guardia Civil advierte de que dicha actividad puede resultar peligrosa. "En tiempo de crisis, uno de los gastos que reducimos es el de la conexión a Internet", asegura la Benemérita en un comunicado en su página web. "Nos damos de baja de nuestro ADSL y continuamos utilizando la Wi-Fi del vecino".
Sin embargo, el grupo especial centrado en delitos telemáticos remarca que no se tiene en cuenta quién es el vecino y no sabemos si sabe de informática suficiente como para poder averiguar nuestras contraseñas o datos personales.
"Imaginemos que sabe de informática o que él o su hijo es un «hackercillo»", apuntan en el comunicado. "Igual siente atracción por conocer la vida de sus vecinos y puede utilizar «programitas» para espiar nuestras comunicaciones o para infectarnos con un software espía y conocer nuestras contraseñas de correo electrónico, de banca, nuestros hábitos de navegación por Internet...".
También se puede plantear la situación a la inversa y que un vecino se conecte a nuestra red Wi-Fi y "si tiene conocimientos" acceder a nuestros datos. Así, la Guardia Civil recomienta utilizar routers Wi-Fi con sistemas de cifrado WPA, contraseñas robustas, subnetting, filtrar por MAC.
