En las últimas ediciones de Cibeles Madrid Fashion Week, los desfiles del modisto cordobés parecían un vistazo al pasado, algo no lograba cuajar con sus colecciones. Elio Berhanyer, uno de los maestros de la costura española, ha cerrado definitivamente las puertas de su taller en la madrileña calle Fortuny. Artesanos Camiseros, su soporte financiero, ha cortado el grifo al diseñador cordobés, que por su estado de salud y por las dificultades que ha tenido de adaptarse a las nuevas tendencias no ha encontrado su lugar en la exigente industria actual de la moda.
Hace tiempo que circulaban rumores sobre su retirada aunque él se afanó siempre en desmentirlos, como hizo en una entrevista a este diario en la pasada edición de Cibeles. Aseguraba entonces que su próxima colección sería importante y que la muerte lo encontraría con la aguja en la mano. Parece ser que la crisis económica va a impedir que eso ocurra.
"Está tocado por la crisis y una mala gestión empresarial", explica Modesto Lomba, presidente de la Asociación de Creadores de Moda de España, "pero Elio Berhanyer tiene ánimo para seguir trabajando". Despedir la firma de Elio Berhanyer es decir adiós a uno de los grandes diseñadores de la historia de la moda española. Ava Gardner y Cyd Charisse se pasearon enfundadas en sus diseños por el Hollywood de oro y en nuestro país también se ha reconocido su labor con la Medalla de Oro al Mérito de las Bellas Artes que recibió en 2002, una exposición restrospectiva a sus 50 años en la moda en el Museo del Traje el 2008 o el homenaje que recibió por parte de la pasarela Cibeles en su 80 cumpleaños.
