Fallece el cantaor Manuel Agujetas a los 76 años

CÁDIZ.- El cantaor Manuel de los Santos Pastor, conocido artísticamente como 'Agujetas' o 'Agujetas de Jerez', ha fallecido este viernes a los 76 años, tras una larga enfermedad. Según han confirmado fuentes cercanas al cantaor, el fallecimiento de 'Agujetas' se ha producido a mediodía en el Hospital del Servicio Andaluz de Salud (SAS) de Jerez, donde ingresó en la tarde del jueves.
Al no existir siquiera partida de nacimiento, se calcula que 'Agujetas' pudo nacer en 1939, aunque también hay dudas acerca de su lugar de nacimiento, si lo hizo en Jerez o en Rota (Cádiz).
Manuel Agujetas era uno de los grandes referentes y defensores del flamenco más auténtico, y máximo exponente de una saga familiar que inició su padre, 'Agujetas Viejo', que fue quien le inculcó el cante de maestros como Manuel Torre, Tío José de Paula o El Marruro.
Manuel de los Santos Pastor protagoniza uno de los momentos más intensos de la película 'Flamenco' de Carlos Saura, interpretando un martinete en el que muestra la pureza de su cante.
Ha participado en 13 grabaciones discográficas, la primera titulada "Viejo cante jondo", de 1972; y la última "Agujetas: Historia, Pureza y Vanguardia del Flamenco", de 2012, una edición antológica integrada por cinco volúmenes. En la práctica totalidad de estos trabajos, Manuel Agujetas defiende el cante antiguo y la memoria oral.
