Amazon.com, una de las mayores tiendas por Internet, ha aclarado que la eliminación, durante el fin de semana, en su ránking de ventas de libros de temática homosexual se debió exclusivamente a un "error de catalogación" y no un fallo informático, como se apuntaba.
"Se trata de un vergonzoso y torpe error de catalogación de la compañía, que está muy orgullosa de ofrecer una selección completa" de libros, aseguró hoy en un comunicado el portavoz de Amazon.com, Drew Herdenmer.
Durante el pasado fin de semana se detectó que la tienda virtual había suprimido de su ránking de ventas de algunas publicaciones de contenido homosexual, lo que rápidamente se difundió por Internet y se interpretó por muchos como una cuestión de autocensura.
Amazon ofrece ese ránking para que los interesados en un producto tengan datos sobre su aceptación en el mercado, por lo que pronto se detectó la alteración y fueron muchos los usuarios que se pusieron en contacto con la tienda para expresar su queja.
Según cuentan algunos de esos clientes en distintas páginas webs y blogs, la respuesta inicial que se les dio es que se habían tomado medidas debido a que se trataba de contenido para adultos.
Sin embargo, Herdenmer explicó hoy que ya se ha arreglado el fallo e incluso apuntó que el problema no se ciñó a las publicaciones de contenido homosexual, sino a un total de 57.310 libros de todo tipo de temáticas y de distintas zonas del mundo.
"Tampoco afectó sólo a los ránking de ventas, sino también a la retirada de libros en el sistema de búsqueda principal de Amazon", añadió el portavoz, quien prometió que la compañía está tomando las medidas necesarias para tratar de evitar que este tipo de "accidentes" se repitan.
