MADRID.- El estadio madrileño Vicente Calderón, propiedad del Atlético de Madrid, albergará la final de la Copa del rey de fútbol 2016, que enfrentará al Barcelona y al Sevilla, el próximo 22 de mayo, según ha anunciado el club andaluz.
La decisión de que el Vicente Calderón sea la sede de la final de Copa, ha sido adoptada esta tarde, durante la reunión que la junta directiva de la Real Federación Española de Fútbol ha mantenido en su sede de la Ciudad del Fútbol de Las Rozas (Madrid).
Hasta ahora, el Vicente Calderón ha acogido a 12 finales de la Copa del rey: 1972-73, 1973-74, 1974-75, 1976-77, 1978-79, 1980-81, 1985-86, 1988-89, 1993-94, 2004-05, 2007-08 y 2011-12.
De estas 12 finales, el Barcelona estuvo presente en cuatro de ellas: cayó en las de 1973-74, ante el Real Madrid, y 1985-86, frente al Real Zaragoza; mientras alzó el trofeo en las de 1980-81, contra el Sporting Gijón, y 2011-12, con el Athletic Club Bilbao.
El Sevilla, de las siete finales coperas disputadas, de las que ganó cinco, ninguna la ha jugado en el Vicente Calderón. Lo hizo, en cambio, en el estadio del "eterno rival" madrileño, el Real Madrid, tanto cuando era Chamartín (1935), Nuevo Chamartín (1947-48) y Santiago Bernabéu (1955, 1961-62, 2006-07).
