Subrayó Rehhagel, ante la insistencia de los periodistas en la previa, que no daría “ninguna clave sobre la estrategia del partido”. El metódico técnico ha fundamentado en ella los pilares que sostienen a la selección helena y no piensa revelar a nadie su fórmula.
Con un puñado de jugadores aguerridos y poco más, Rehhagel ha situado a Grecia entre la nobleza del fútbol continental. Enfrente estuvo Suecia, un equipo con grandes dosis de calidad individual, pero que ve cómo la falta de química entre sus jugadores repercute en el rendimiento del grupo.
La salida en hilera al campo de los suecos, con Zlatan y Mellberg a unos metros del grupo encabezado por Ljungberg (que se resiste a dejar de ser la estrella que fue), representa la realidad de un vestuario con enormes diferencias.
El encuentro transcurrió sobre el guión esperado. O no. Rehhagel, por si el entramado defensivo que pensó no era suficiente, reforzó la zaga con un tercer central. Toda una declaración de intenciones. Quiso asegurar al menos el empate y ya se sabe...
El partido avanzaba con Grecia agazapada y Suecia buscando que la imaginación de un lastrado Ibrahimovic decantase el choque. Y a punto estuvo el jugador del Inter, en un melón colgado al área que peinó con la coronilla, de adelantar a los suyos. La fortuna le fue esquiva a Zlatan y ahí murió el primer tiempo.
En la reanudación, Grecia creyó en sus posibilidades y lo pagó caro. A la segunda que tuvo Slatan, la metió en la cazuela. Ahí murió el sistema ultradefensivo de Grecia. Y como jugar con el marcador en contra no es lección que se suela aprender en los ensayos de Rehhagel, lo acabó pagando con otro gol, tras una cadena de errores colectivos helenos que retratan su pobre propuesta. Y así Suecia toma aire con la caída de Troya.
