No es la primera vez que la presidenta de la Comunidad de Madrid, Esperanza Aguirre, le da palos al alcalde de la capital, Alberto Ruiz-Gallardón, aunque esta vez se tratan de palos para jugar al golf, con motivo de la celebración de la candidatura de Madrid para la Ryder Cup.
Un regalo simbólico que Aguirre hizo a Gallardón en la Feria Internacional de Turismo (FITUR), que se celebra hasta el domingo en el recinto Ferial de IFEMA. La 'lideresa' participó con el alcalde en apoyo a la candidatura de la capital como sede para esta competición bienal que enfrenta cada año a Estados Unidos contra un combinado de jugadores europeos.
Madrid pretende ser la sede de la Ryder Cup para el año 2018. El acto en IFEMA también tenía el objetivo de acercar el golf a todos los españoles y convertir Madrid en un referente turístico internacional.
De resultar elegida, la candidatura de Madrid supondría la segunda edición de la Ryder en España, después de la que se celebró en el campo de Valderrama en 1997. Los otros países candidatos para 2018 son Alemania, Francia, Portugal, Holanda y Suecia. La decisión final, en abril de 2011.
