El Defensor del Pueblo está estudiando si hay algún tipo de irregularidad en la actuación del Ayuntamiento de Torrejón de Ardoz (Madrid) por los requisitos que pone a los inmigrantes para empadronarse en la localidad, informaron desde la institución.
La investigación no comienza ahora, sino que se abrió a raíz de una queja que presentó a mediados de 2009 IU de la localidad, señalaron desde el Defensor del Pueblo.
Actualmente, se ha conocido que el Consistorio torrejonero obliga a los inmigrantes que quieran empadronarse en el municipio a tener la documentación en regla, que su pasaporte no tenga visado de turista y que el espacio en el que vivan sea como mínimo de 20 metros cuadrados por persona.
La investigación está en curso y la institución está en trámites de hablar con el Ayuntamiento para esclarecer los hechos.
Como ya avanzó Público.es, el PP advierte en un documento que conmemora sus dos años en el ayuntamiento que "el fenomeno de la inmigración se ha desbordado en Torrejón" y "por ello, el Gobierno[...] aprobó nuevas normas para empadronarse en el municipio".
Según el consistorio, medidas como prohibir el empadronamiento a extranjeros con visado de turistas o exigir 20 metros útiles por cada persona que ocupe una vivienda son "medidas que han demostrado sus frutos".
