La Policía ha detenido en Venezuela al presunto miembro de ETA Iñaki Landazabal Etxeberria, según han informado a Efe fuentes de la lucha antiterrorista.
El arresto se ha efectuado tras previas conversaciones de las policías española y venezolana para que se procediera a su detención con el fin de extraditarle a España.
Según las mismas fuentes, existe una orden de detención contra Landazabal Echevarria del juzgado central de instrucción número cuatro de la Audiencia Nacional.
El presunto etarra era buscado por su participación en un atentado frustrado contra el trabajador del diario La Gaceta del Norte en 1981 Gerardo Huezo.
El detenido ha sido puesto a disposición de la Fiscalía venezolana para que se inicien los trámites para su extradición a España.
En 1995 la Audiencia Nacional condenó a 17 años de cárcel a Manuel José Chavarri y José Joaquín Oleaga por el atentado frustrado contra Gerardo Huezo y consideró probado que Landazabal y Víctor Tejedor Bilbao también participaron en los hechos, aunque estos dos últimos los declaró en rebeldía.
Precisamente esta semana Tejedor ha sido absuelto de este intento de asesinato al considerar la Audiencia Nacional que no existe "corroboración objetiva" de su "efectiva" participación en esos hechos".
El periodista, fallecido en la actualidad, resultó ileso al huir cuando le disparaban en su oficina situada en el citado diario, en la calle Henao de Bilbao. Venezuela es uno de los países latinoamericanos que las autoridades españolas consideran tradicional refugio de los terroristas de ETA.
