El Gobierno español requirió durante todo el año 2014 en 112 ocasiones a Twitter para informar sobre cuentas de esta plataforma, un procedimiento que generalmente está relacionado con investigaciones criminales, según ha informado la red social en un informe de transparencia.
Concretamente, el informe relativo al segundo semestre del año señala que en, este periodo de tiempo España, solicitó hasta en 69 ocasiones información a Twitter sobre cuentas, si bien la plataforma únicamente facilitó información en un 12% de las veces (lo que hace un total de ocho cuentas).
Twitter avisa a los usuarios de esta solicitud "siempre y cuando no haya una prohibición previa".
Según explica el informe, en ocasiones Twitter no puede atender todas las peticiones debido a que no se puede identificar la cuenta o los usuarios impugnan la solicitud una vez recibida. En cualquier caso, la plataforma detectó 104 cuentas dentro de estas solicitudes (ya que en ocasiones hay cuentas duplicadas).
Estas 69 peticiones de información se suman a las del primer semestre de 2014, que fueron 43. En aquella ocasión Twitter atendió el mismo porcentaje de solicitudes, un 12%, identificando a su vez un total de 64 cuentas.
A nivel global, Twitter ha asegurado recibir en este semestre aproximadamente un 40% más de solicitudes de información respecto al semestre anterior, que han afectado a un 128% más de titulares de cuentas. La plataforma avisa a los usuarios de esta solicitud "siempre y cuando no haya una prohibición previa".
La red social justifica este aumento en parte a "la continua expansión internacional" de Twitter. "También hubo varios acontecimientos mundiales durante este periodo, incluyendo varias elecciones y ataques terroristas, lo que llevó a un aumento en las solicitudes", ha señalado.
Estados Unidos sigue acaparando la mayoría de las solicitudes de información, que comprende el 56% del total. Del 44% restante, Turquía es el segundo solicitante, con el 12% de todas las solicitudes, seguido de Japón.
