El director general de la Guardia Civil, Arsenio Fernández de Mesa, ha hecho hoy una encendida defensa de la unidad de España y ha exigido que no se "tergiverse" la realidad constitucional porque "nadie tiene derecho a tirar por la borda" el trabajo y esfuerzo de tantos españoles.
Por ello, ha considerado que la soberanía "no reside en las poblaciones de los territorios aisladamente considerados", sino en el conjunto del pueblo español.
Fernández de Mesa ha aprovechado su discurso en la celebración de la patrona de la Guardia Civil en un acuartelamiento de Madrid para recordar a aquellos que piden la independencia de los territorios españoles que "la soberanía reside en el conjunto del pueblo español".
Ha subrayado que la Carta Magna de 1978 es la Constitución de "la concordia y de la reconciliación", por lo que ha hecho un llamamiento a que no se vuelva a la España "de blanco y negro" y de una situación que ya ha sido superada por la democracia, que "zanjó siglos de enfrentamientos y de divisiones".
Fernández de Mesa ha insistido en que el Estado autonómico está basado en tres principios, el primero de ellos la soberanía del pueblo español "como un todo indisoluble", es decir, la unidad de la patria.
