Los juicios por terrorismo en la Audiencia Nacional suelen tener siempre un protagonista involuntario: la traducción de euskera. Ayer se vivió el problema en toda su magnitud. El vídeo del acto por el que el ex dirigente de Batasuna Arnaldo Otegi se enfrenta a una petición fiscal de 18 meses de cárcel por enaltecimiento del terrorismo y de hasta cinco años, por parte de las acusaciones, no estaba traducido. Como la presidenta del tribunal, Ángela Murillo, no había entendido "ni papa", ordenó a la intérprete que lo tradujera, pero su versión no satisfizo a la defensa.
La juez intentó solucionar el problema pidiendo a la defensa que dijera qué había dicho Otegi en el acto de homenaje a José María Sagarduy. Después le propuso aportar su propia traducción. Ante las quejas de los abogados por el escaso tiempo y la dificultad de encontrar un intérprete de euskera en Madrid, Murillo replicó: "Hombre, si fuera el Quijote, pero para un trocito..."
No fue la única frase chocante de la magistrada, que suele adoptar un tono coloquial en sus intervenciones, pero sí la que sirve de ejemplo de la situación que se suele vivir en las vistas orales con el uso del euskera. El miércoles otra acusada, Itziar Galardi, optó por declarar en castellano tras quejarse de la traducción de la intérprete.
Ese episodio fue utilizado ayer por las defensas para cuestionar la traducción que había hecho del vídeo. Y eso que sus palabras tenían poco de incriminatorio para Otegi.
La cinta contenía las imágenes de Televisión Española del acto de julio de 2005. Todavía no se habían traducido. Las acusaciones alegan que acusan con los informes policiales, las noticias y las declaraciones de los acusados.
