PARÍS.- Las fuerzas especiales francesas liberaron este lunes en el norte de Mali al rehén holandés Sjaak Rijke, secuestrado por Al Qaeda en el Magreb Islámico (AQMI) el 25 de noviembre de 2011 en Tumbuctú, al tiempo que capturaron a varios terroristas, indicó el Ministerio galo de Defensa.
La operación tuvo lugar a las 04.00 horas GMT en el "extremo norte" del país africano y Rijke se encuentra "sano y salvo" en la base de Tessalit, puesto avanzado de la operación Barkhane de las fuerzas galas en Mali, señaló Defensa en un comunicado.
A finales del año pasado Rijke aparecía en un vídeo junto al francés Serge Lazarevic, liberado en noviembre pasado en un punto de la frontera entre Mali y Níger. "La liberación de Rijke recuerda la determinación sin descanso de Francia en la lucha contra los grupos terroristas armados en la región del Sahel", señaló el Ministerio.
Desde hace un año, 500 militares holandeses participan en la estabilización y la seguridad de Mali dentro de la Misión Multidimensión Integrada de la ONU para la Estabilización de Mali (MINUSMA). Defensa señaló que el ministro, Jean-Yves Le Drian, informó a su homóloga holandesa, Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, de la operación.
"Francia proseguirá sus acciones antiterroristas en el Sahel mientras nuestra seguridad esté amenazada por estos grupos", indicó Le Drian, citado en el comunicado. El ministro envió un mensaje de felicitación a las fuerzas francesas y a las de los otros cinco países que tienen contingentes desplegados en la operación Barkhane, que totaliza 3.000 efectivos.
