QUITO.- La Asociación Ecuatoriana de Guías de Montaña alertó este fin de semana del hallazgo de tres cadáveres a más de 5.600 metros de altitud en el volcán Chimborazo y las autoridades investigan ahora si, como se sospecha, corresponden a un trío de alpinistas desaparecidos en la zona hace más de 20 años.
Efectivos del Grupo de Intervención y Rescate (GIR) y de la Policía respondieron a la alerta de la asociación de guías y localizaron los tres cadáveres congelados. Los cuerpos han sido trasladados a una morgue en Riobamba y, según el ministro del Interior, José Serrano, están ya a disposición de la Dirección Nacional de Delitos Contra la Vida, Muertes Violentas, Desapariciones, Extorsión y Secuestro (Dinased).
Las primeras investigaciones apuntan a que serían los restos de tres personas desaparecidas hace más de dos décadas, según el diario 'El Telégrafo'. Entre las pistas que han ayudado a los expertos figuran el tipo de vestimenta y el modelo de cámara -de carrete-.
Uno de los responsables de la Dinased, Fernando de la Torre, ha explicado que "los cadáveres deben secarse al ambiente para no destruir tejidos". A continuación, los restos serán trasladados a Quito -150 kilómetros al norte de la montaña- para que un equipo de antropólogos pueda analizarlos.
Los investigadores también intentan recabar testimonios que ayuden a verificar la identidad de los alpinistas. De esta forma, han llamado a la colaboración de quien conozca a algún desaparecido en la zona entre los años 1993 y 1995. Por esa época, trece montañeros quedaron sepultados por un alud pero sólo se rescataron tres cuerpos.
