Un vídeo de la última visita a Haití de los dos últimos ex presidentes de Estados Unidos ha dado la vuelta al mundo ante el aparente gesto de George W. Bush de limpiarse en la camisa de Bill Clinton tras darle la mano a un damnificado por el terremoto.
El vídeo, disponible en Youtube y en las páginas de web de multitud de medios internacionales, arroja la duda sobre si Bush se está limpiando o si simplemente ofrece un gesto de aprecio a Clinton al pasarle la mano por el hombro.
La cadena pública estadounidense de radio NPR afirma que el gesto de Bush es 'sutil', aunque reconoce que sería 'comprensible' que se hubiera desecho de la suciedad en su mano si se tiene en cuenta que visitaba un campamento de damnificados, donde 'permanecer limpio no es fácil'.
Menos condescendiente se muestra la web thinkprogress.org, que recuerda la conocida aversión a los gérmenes de George W. Bush y su tendencia a limpiarse en la ropa de los demás.
En la misma página donde muestra las imágenes de Haití, enseña un vídeo antiguo en el que se ve al anterior presidente de EEUU utilizar el la chaqueta de una mujer para aclarar el cristal de sus gafas.
También recuerda la cita de uno de los libros de Barack Obama, en la que el actual presidente rememora cómo, al visitar la Casa Blanca como senador de Illinois y dar la mano a Bush, éste pidió a un ayudante una buena dosis de desinfectante de manos.
The New York Magazine recuerda la misma cita del libro 'La Audacia de la Esperanza' y se pregunta si Bush 'tiene algún tipo de problemas en dar la mano específicamente a gente negra'.
Esta publicación descarta esta posibilidad, dada la gran cantidad de afroamericanos que Bush habrá tenido que saludar durante su presidencia y atribuye el gesto más bien al hecho de que el haitiano, no identificado, tenía probablemente las manos 'sucias y pegajosas'.
