Al menos 162 pasajeros y 11 tripulantes han enfermado a bordo del Caribbean Princess, de la compañía Princess Cruises, sólo tres días después de que se propagase un virus en otro crucero que tenía previsto recorrer el Caribe, dejando 700 personas enfermas, la cifra más alta en la últimas dos décadas.
Según datos del Centro de Control y Prevención de Enfermedades de Estados Unidos (CDC, por sus siglas en inglés), el 5,22% de los pasajeros del Caribbean Princess enfermaron, obligando al barco a volver a la ciudad estadounidense de Houston (Texas) —puerto de origen—, mientras que en el Explorer of the Seas enfermaron el 20,5% del total.
Tal y como recoge la cadena estadounidense CNN, la agencia ha afirmado que funcionarios de Salud abordarán el barco en Houston para investigar la enfermedad gastrointestinal, que está causando en los afectados vómitos y diarrea —y que se presupone que es un norovirus, según la portavoz de la compañía—.
