El primer ministro israelí, Binyamin Netanyahu, quiere evitar que Israel se convierta en su Vic particular y por eso ha anunciado que no permitirá que "miles de trabajadores extranjeros inunden el país", ya que están conduciendo a Israel "hacia el Tercer Mundo".
Netanyahu acusa directamente a los inmigrantes de ser los responsables de la reducción de los salarios y de minar la naturaleza judía y democrática del Estado al causar "un daño cultural, social y económico" a Israel.
"Estamos inundados con una oleada de refugiados que amenazan con llevarse nuestros logros y dañar nuestra existencia", aseguró Netanyahu en un tono muy agresivo, según el diario Yediot Aharonot.
Para Netanyahu, el problema de Israel se deriva de su "éxito económico" y de que Israel es "casi el único país del Primer Mundo que puede alcanzarse a pie desde el Tercer Mundo", en referencia a Egipto, Palestina, Líbano y Siria, los países a través de los cuales entran los inmigrantes, muchos de ellos procedentes de Sudán.
Por ello, Netanyahu defendió su plan para construir una verja de 250 kilómetros a lo largo de la frontera con Egipto para impedir la infiltración de inmigrantes. Además, el primer ministro ha encargado al Ministerio de Defensa que redacte una ley que impondrá penas más duras a los israelíes que transportan y acomodan inmigrantes ilegales, una legislación que ya está en su fase inicial.
