GEVGELIJA (MACEDONIA).- La Policía macedonia ha empleado este viernes gases lacrimógenos para dispersar a miles de inmigrantes y refugiados que trataban de cruzar la frontera desde Grecia, según un testigo de Reuters.
Miles de personas procedentes de Oriente Medio, África y Asia, y muchos refugiados sirios, pasaron una noche fría en la tierra de nadie después de que Macedonia declarase este jueves el estado de emergencia en las regiones fronterizas del sur y del norte ante la llegada masiva de inmigrantes y refugiados en los últimos días, tal y como anunció el Ministerio del Interior.
El portavoz ministerial, Ivo Kotevski, afirmó este jueves que el Gobierno espera que la participación del Ejército sirva para aumentar la seguridad de las regiones, de los ciudadanos y de los recién llegados. "Esta medida se impone con el fin de aumentar la seguridad de la población en las regiones fronterizas, así como para garantizar el tratamiento integral y humano de los migrantes que transitan por el país", dijo Kotevski.
Kotevski añadió que el Ejecutivo va a establecer gabinetes de crisis para trazar un plan de acción que permita gestionar la gran afluencia de personas que entran en el país. Según cifras oficiales, más de 40.000 inmigrantes irregulares llegaron a Macedonia en los dos últimos meses.
La frontera, según la prensa, está bloqueada desde el miércoles, por lo que grupos de mujeres, hombres y niños resisten a las altas temperaturas sin tener un sitio donde alojarse ni poder acceder a los servicios básicos.
