En medio del terror a nuevas réplicas y del caos de un país desolado, los equipos de rescate que no han abandonado Haití siguen realizando milagros, contra toda lógica. El último ha sido el de rescatar con vida a una bebé de tan solo 22 días de vida en la ciudad de Jacmel, a unos 50 kilómetros de la capital, Puerto Príncipe.
Los encargados de tal prodigio han sido un grupo de bomberos del equipo de ayuda enviada por Colombia. La pequeña, de nombre Elizabeth, fue hallada después de pasar ocho días bajo los escombros de su vivienda.
La niña, al parecer, se encontraba acostada en una cama sobre la que había una viga que impidió que el techo del inmueble se derrumbara, con lo que se creó un espacio en el cual pudo respirar y permanecer con vida. La madre de la bebé explicó que el pasado martes el edificio se desplomó y ella salió expulsada mientras que la niña quedó encerrada en una habitación de la casa.
La menor fue traslada de forma urgente a un centro hospitalario donde se encuentra estable. William Tovar, subdirector del Cuerpo de Bomberos de Bogotá, describió el rescate como "un milagro completo". "Dios la colocó en el sitio que debía ser para que sobreviviera. Sólo tenía síntomas de deshidratación", explicó a Caracol Radio.
