Siete muertos y once heridos. Es el resultado de las acciones de un perturbado que la emprendió con un cuchillo contra los viandantes de un céntrico barrio de Tokio a plena luz del día, informó la cadena de televisión japonesa NHK.
El agresor, que ha sido identificado como Tomohiro Kato, fue detenido en el barrio de Akihabara (norte de Tokio) donde ocurrieron los hechos, alrededor de las 12:30 horas (3:30 GMT), según las autoridades policiales.
"Vine a Akihabara para matar a gente. Estoy cansado del mundo. Cualquiera estaba bien. Vine solo", dijo Kato a la Policía, según la agencia local de noticias Kyodo.
La Policía indicó que el hombre llegó a una zona cercana a la estación de tren de Akihabara en una camioneta, con la que golpeó a varios peatones.
"El hombre saltó sobre un transeúnte que había golpeado con su vehículo y lo apuñaló en repetidas ocasiones", afirmó, por su parte, un joven de 19 años de edad citado por la agencia de noticias Kiodo. Según su relato, el detenido "apuñalaba a la gente de forma aleatoria mientras caminaba hacia la estación de tren de Akihabara".
La zona del ataque es especialmente bulliciosa durante los fines de semana y es uno de los lugares más frecuentados por los turistas que visitan Tokio.
Posteriormente se bajó del coche y atacó con un cuchillo a unas 18 personas, entre ellas un agente de Policía, según el cuerpo de bomberos.
