Uno de los hoteles atacados durante la cadena de atentados en Bombay, en llamas
Un tribunal indio ha concedido el perdón este jueves a uno de los principales acusados de los atentados perpetrados en 2008 en la ciudad de Bombay y le ha aceptado como uno de los testigos de la acusación.
David Coleman Headley, un estadounidense de origen paquistaní y miembro del grupo terrorista Lashkar-e-Taiba, está cumpliendo una pena de 35 años de cárcel en el país norteamericano por su papel en la planificación de los atentados, que se saldaron con 166 muertos.
Headley había ofrecido al tribunal indio comparecer como testigo en caso de que se le concediera un perdón especial, lo que ha sido aceptado por la corte, que ha pedido que revele la información que facilitó durante su juicio en Estados Unidos.
"He recibido el documento con los cargos que me imputa este tribunal. Se me acusa de lo mismo de lo que fue acusado en Estados Unidos. Me declaré culpable en Estados Unidos y admití mi responsabilidad en los cargos", ha dicho durante una comparecencia por videoconferencia
"Acordé además estar disponible como testigo ante este tribunal. Comparezco dispuesto a responder a las preguntas sobre los acontecimientos si recibo el perdón de la corte", ha agregado, según ha informado el diario local The Times of India.
Headley realizó entre 2007 y 2008 numerosos viajes a Bombay para analizar posibles objetivos y entregó posteriormente varios vídeos, rutas y coordenadas de GPS para que los terroristas pudieran causar el mayor número de bajas posibles durante los atentados.
