Arranca hoy el juicio en la ciudad de Kayseri contra cuatro agentes de la policía por la muerte de un joven manifestante que fue apaleado hasta la muerte durante las protestas por el parque de Gezi en junio pasado.
En la primera sesión del juicio, que durará hasta el miércoles, un total de ocho acusados, cuatro de ellos policías, tendrán que responder ante el juez, según informa el diario turco "Evrensel".
Cinco de los acusados, entre ellos un agente, están acusados de "homicidio intencionado", delito que conlleva la cadena perpetua, mientras que otros tres policías, en libertad provisional, podrían recibir entre 10 y 15 años de prisión por complicidad.
El juicio ha suscitado una enorme expectación en Turquía y varios autobuses con amigos y familiares de la víctima han llegado a Kayseri, donde la policía ha tomado enormes medidas de precaución. Más de dos mil agentes con dos blindados, apoyados por un helicóptero, han bloqueados varias calles alrededor del juzgado.
Ali Ismail Korkmaz, un estudiante de 19 años, oriundo de Hatay (sur del país), fue agredido cuando huía de una carga policial en la ciudad de Eskisehir, el 2 de junio del pasado año, durante las protestas inspiradas por el parque Gezi de Estambul.
Aunque fue dado de alta del hospital al día siguiente, su estado empeoró y murió tras 38 días en coma.
