El secretario general del PSOE, Pedro Sánchez, relevará al presidente asturiano, Javier Fernández, como vicepresidente de la Internacional Socialista (IS) en la reunión del Consejo que esta organización celebra en la sede de la ONU en Nueva York, han confirmado fuentes socialistas.
Pedro Sánchez ya ocupó ese cargo desde diciembre de 2014 hasta que fue sustituido en él por Javier Fernández el pasado mes de marzo, cuando éste era el presidente de la gestora que tomó las riendas del PSOE tras la dimisión de Sánchez como secretario general.
Javier Fernández, que fue elegido como uno de los vicepresidentes de la IS en el XXV Congreso que tuvo lugar en Cartagena de Indias (Colombia), será así, a su vez, relevado por el secretario general, que en 2014 sustituyó en el cargo a Alfredo Pérez Rubalcaba.
La IS, que agrupa a partidos de corte socialdemócrata y laborista de todo el mundo, está presidida por el ex primer ministro griego Yorgos Papandréu, y su secretario general es el chileno Luis Ayala. Junto a ellos forman el "Presidium" de la organización varias decenas de vicepresidentes de todos sus países miembros.
Está previsto que Pedro Sánchez intervenga hoy en el Consejo que la IS celebra en Nueva York, en lo que será su primer viaje internacional desde que fue reelegido líder del PSOE en el 39 Congreso del pasado 17 y 18 de junio.
