Explicar que es la cábala es tan complejo que el máximo especialista en ella admite que necesitaría "al menos dos horas" para explicar "algo" de la mística especulativa hebrea. Moshe Idel (Rumanía, 1947) trabaja desde 1963 en la Universidad Hebrea de Jerusalén donde dirige la cátedra de cábala. Se encuentra en Madrid participando en un seminario Simposio sobre Liturgia hebrea organizado por Casa Sefarad.
¿Qué es la cábala?
Muy fácil. No lo sé. Es como si me preguntas ¿qué es la ciencia? No hay una sola respuesta, hay muchas. En dos horas puedo explicar algo, en cuatro quizá un poco más.
¿Y en diez minutos?
Bueno si tengo que definirla, sería la ciencia que estudia la mística de la religión judía. Ha habido muy pocas personas que hayan estudiado la cábala antes y ahora, pero su influencia en la sociedad judía es muy importante porque muchos cabalistas han llegado a ser líderes de los judíos.
Muchos personajes populares como la cantante Madonna se han entregado últimamente al estudio de las antiguas escrituras hebreas. ¿Qué cree que buscan?
Hace 40 años acudían al yoga o a la meditación trascendental, ahora acuden a la cábala. Es la segunda oleada tras la meditación oriental. Las personas diferentes buscan respuestas diferentes. La gente busca un sustituto de la religión y sus instituciones. Y en este momento, la cábala, que fue creada en Europa y es parte de la cultura occidental, está llegando a ser una respuesta.
Uno de sus profetas, Abrahan Abulaifa, nació en Zaragoza.
Sí, es un importante profeta del siglo XIII. Un mesías pero no como creemos que son los mesías. Sino como alguien que daba respuestas a los individuos para que creyeran en sí mismos para salvarse.
