La Brigada de Expulsión de Delincuentes Extranjeros (Bedex) de la Policía Nacional ejecutó 7.591 repatriaciones de delincuentes extranjeros en el primer año de su funcionamiento. Los expulsados por la Bedex, integrada en la Comisaría General de Extranjería y Fronteras, son criminales que por su reincidencia o bien por la violencia o gravedad de los hechos cometidos, suponen una especial amenaza para la seguridad pública.
Las expulsiones, ordenadas siempre por orden judicial, conllevan la prohibición de entrada en España y en los países miembros de Schengen durante diez años.
Estos inmigrantes repatriados son responsables de la comisión de 23.918 delitos, de los que 10.954 (el 46%), fueron contra el patrimonio; un total de 4.445 (19%) contra las personas; 1.968 (8%) fueron delitos contra la salud pública y otros 1.243 (5%) fueron a casos de violencia de género. Además, unos 900 extranjeros fueron expulsados en 2009 como sustitución a la pena que les fue impuesta en los tribunales.
