El director general de la Policía y de la Guardia Civil, Francisco Javier Velázquez, ha aludido en la inauguración del nuevo acuartelamiento de Azuqueca de Henares al "desafío al Estado de Derecho" de los controladores aéreos, que ha motivado la ausencia del ministro del Interior.
Al acto estaba prevista la asistencia del vicepresidente primero del Gobierno y ministro del Interior, Alfredo Pérez Rubalcaba, pero la huelga por sorpresa de los controladores aéreos y la convocatoria de un Consejo de Ministros extraordinario se lo ha impedido.
En este sentido, Velázquez ha dicho que al vicepresidente "le hubiera gustado estar aquí" y ha añadido que "un grupo de trabajadores ha hecho un desafío al Estado de Derecho".
Así, ante los agentes del cuartel que estaban dispuestos en formación militar en el patio, el director general les ha pedido que sean la salvaguarda de la seguridad de los ciudadanos "en circunstancias difíciles" y ha subrayado "ésta es una de ellas".
El nuevo acuartelamiento y viviendas de la Guardia Civil en Azuqueca de Henares dará servicio a más de 56.000 habitantes de varios municipios del Corredor del Henares y su presupuesto se ha situado en 3,1 millones de euros.
Las nuevas dependencias cuentan con dos parcelas que suman una superficie total de 3085 metros cuadrados, una de las cuales (de 1568,86 metros cuadrados) es para uso oficial y otra (de 1516 metros cuadrados) es para uso residencial de los agentes destinados en el cuartel.
Sobre estas parcelas se han construido dos bloques independientes, en uno de los cuales se ubica el puesto principal, el equipo de la Policía Judicial y la Intervención de Armas, así como un centro de detención compuesto por cinco celdas individuales.
En el segundo bloque se encuentran 19 pabellones de viviendas distribuidos en seis plantas, cuatro en altura, la baja y un sótano aparcamiento para 19 vehículos particulares.
La plantilla actual del cuartel azudense ha aumentado en casi un 146 por ciento en los últimos cinco años, al pasar de los 37 efectivos que había en 2005 a los 91 actuales.
