Aunque los rumores apuntaban a que el actor estadounidense Paul Newman había sido diagnosticado con un cáncer terminal de pulmón, su agente Toni Howard desmintió hoy esas informaciones.
Howard dijo al portal de noticias del canal E! que las informaciones acerca del estado terminal en el que presuntamente se encontraba el icono de Hollywood "no son ciertas".
Los artículos al respecto comenzaron a aparecer a finales del mes pasado, cuando Newman abandonó la dirección de la obra de teatro "Our Town", en Westport (Connecticut), sin especificar qué tipo de enfermedad sufría.
Las especulaciones aumentaron con la publicación de unas fotografías, publicadas en el blog de la presentadora Martha Stewart, en las que Newman aparecía en un estado muy deteriorado en un evento con fines benéficos.
El rotativo Los Ángeles Times incluso informó que el aclamado intérprete, fumador empedernido tiempo atrás, es atendido en el centro de Nueva York Sloan-Kettering, especializado en cáncer, bajo la supervisión de un eminente oncólogo de la ciudad.
