El ciclista Alberto Contador, tres veces ganador del Tour de Francia y considerado el mejor corredor del mundo en la actualidad, estará presente en la próxima edición de la Vuelta a Murcia, del 2 al 6 de marzo de 2011, con inicio en San Pedro del Pinatar y final en Murcia, en la que será el gran reclamo.
La noticia ha sido confirmada por el equipo al que pertenece el corredor de Pinto, el Saxo Bank, y difundida hoy por la organización de la carrera murciana.
Junto a Contador, estarán en las carreteras de la región de Murcia otros ciclistas del mismo equipo, como el argentino Lucas Sebastián Haedo y el español Jesús Hernández.
Ésta será la segunda vez que Contador participe en la ronda murciana, en la que debutó hace tres años, cuando consiguió la tercera posición en la clasificación general, por detrás del murciano Alejandro Valverde, que fue el ganador, y del italiano Stefano Garzelli, quien logró el segundo puesto.
Desde el Club Murciano Organizador de Carreras Ciclistas han indicado que, "conociendo a Contador, estamos seguros de que vendrá a ganar una prueba que no tiene en su amplio palmarés, antes de intentar hacer historia en el ciclismo mundial buscando la victoria en las tres grandes en un mismo año".
