El comisario europeo de Asuntos Económicos y Monetarios, Joaquín Almunia, reclama una "política económica exterior" de la Unión Europea para liderar la acción internacional contra la crisis, en continuidad con su iniciativa para la pasada cumbre del G20 de Londres.
"Desde el comienzo, Europa ha estado al mando. Tuvo la idea de esta cumbre del G20, de su agenda y ha escrito buena parte de las conclusiones", recuerda en una entrevista publicada hoy por "La Tribune" Almunia, quien considera que "hay que seguir. Los demás no van a detenerse".
Se trata -argumenta- de que la Unión tome "el liderazgo de esta nueva fase, de hacer valer sus principios, sus soluciones, sus prioridades," teniendo en cuenta que la UE es "el bloque económico más importante del mundo" con un peso del 22% frente al 21% de Estados Unidos o el 11% de China.
El comisario europeo lamenta que "nuestro peso económico no está siempre a la altura de nuestra dimensión económica" y eso plantea problemas a la hora de hacer frente a "la desregulación, esa confianza ciega en los mercados sin tener en cuenta la necesidad de una acción pública para corregir los errores del mercado en ciertos sectores".
"Antes no nos dábamos cuenta de la importancia de tener una posición europea para imponer nuestras soluciones. Ahora, tras el G20, está más claro", sentencia el responsable europeo de Asuntos Económicos y Monetarios.
