La única comunidad autónoma que tiene todas sus capitales unidas por AVE, Castilla-La Mancha, perderá la línea directa diaria que las conecta. Renfe ha decidido eliminar, a partir del 1 de julio, el AVE Toledo-Cuenca-Albacete (que pasa por Madrid) porque es inviable económicamente para la empresa pública por "demanda insuficiente".
Cada día se subían a esa línea directa sólo nueve viajeros de los 2.190 potenciales para ambos sentidos. "Un desastre", como lo definió ayer en una rueda de prensa en Toledo el director general del área de viajeros de Renfe, Enrique Urkijo, quien explicó la decisión. Traducido en dinero, a las arcas del Estado le costaba 18.000 euros cada día mantener el servicio desde que Renfe lo puso en marcha el pasado 19 de diciembre, lo que supone que más de 3 millones de euros de dinero público se han perdido en esta línea.
En cambio, el servicio Madrid-Toledo funciona "como un tiro", señaló Urkijo. Para compensar la anulación del Toledo-Albacete, Renfe ofrecerá billetes combinados a los viajeros que quieran seguir haciendo el viaje de la línea directa que ahora se anula, pero tendrán que hacer transbordo en Madrid desde Toledo (hasta ahora no hacía falta cambiar de tren). Además, Renfe aumentará de 11 a 13 las frecuencias del Avant que une Madrid y Toledo.
