Julio de 2001. El cierre de Napster abre las puertas a otros programas
Napster almacenaba archivos en sus servidores. Un juez ordenó el cierre de los mismos y el servicio, creado por Shawn Fanning, pagó más de 25 millones de euros a las discográficas.
Junio 2005. Un intento de tecnología neutral que resultó fallido
El programa Grokster usó en su defensa la sentencia del ‘caso Sony’, que contempla que la tecnología no es responsable del uso que hacían los usuarios. Pero el juez estimó que el fin principal de Grokster era la piratería.
Junio 2008. La mayor demanda en España a un creador de software
La industria discográfica demandó a Pablo Soto, creador de programas P2P como Blubster, por competencia desleal. Le reclaman 13 millones de euros por daños y perjuicios. El proceso continúa abierto.
Septiembre 2008. Absolución para la web de enlaces Sharemula
La Audiencia Provincial de Madrid sentenció de forma firme y no recurrible la absolución de la página Sharemula, considerando que incluir enlaces sin albergar el archivo en sí no constituye una actividad criminal.
