El consejero del Banco Central Europeo (BCE) José Manuel González-Páramo consideró hoy "urgente" que se apliquen los acuerdos adoptados en el marco del G-20, porque sólo así retornará la confianza al sistema financiero, y éste "dejaría de ser parte del problema para convertirse en parte de la solución".
Así lo aseguró en un encuentro digital en la web del diario El Mundo, en el que preguntado por la actual restricción de las entidades del crédito a familias y empresas, añadió que los bancos deberían ser "conscientes" de que ninguna "oportunidad viable" debería quedar sin financiación adecuada, pues ello iría "en contra de su propio interés".
Respecto a la política monetaria en la zona del euro, González-Páramo recordó que el BCE no ha decidido que el 1,25 por ciento sea el nivel mínimo de los tipos de interés, por lo que, añadió, no se puede excluir un nuevo recorte, aunque sería "en una cuantía muy moderada".
El consejero señaló además que la política monetaria del BCE mantiene su capacidad de influir sobre la economía, facilitando el acceso al crédito y mejorando las condiciones de financiación de familias y empresas.
En cuanto a la moderación de los precios en la zona del euro, que se observa en las tasas negativas que ya registran algunos países -entre ellos, España-, González-Páramo justificó que se debe a la caída del precio de la energía y de los alimentos.
Por ello, consideró que el riesgo de que se produzca una deflación -el descenso generalizado y sostenido de los precios- "no es elevado" e insistió que ante ello, una de las mejores defensas es la credibilidad del BCE.
