La Cámara Baja del Parlamento ruso aprobó el viernes la última lectura de la enmienda constitucional que extiende el mandato presidencial de cuatro a seis años.
La enmienda fue aprobada por la Duma Estatal por 392 votos a 57. Los críticos del Kremlin dicen que el cambio podría ser parte de un plan del ex presidente Vladimir Putin para regresar a su antiguo puesto, aunque las autoridades lo niegan.
La cámara, dominada por el partido Rusia Unida de Putin, también votaron de manera abrumadora extender su propio mandato de cuatro a cinco años.
Las enmiendas, propuestas por el presidente Dmitry Medvedev, deben ser aprobadas ahora por tres cuartas partes de la Cámara Alta del Parlamento y dos tercios de las legislaturas regionales de toda Rusia para convertirse en ley.
Un período más largo del Kremlin no se aplicará al mandato actual de Medvedev y el portavoz de Putin dijo que no hay planes para convocar a elecciones anticipadas.
