El príncipe Carlos de Inglaterra y su esposa, Camilla, recorrieron hoy la Isla de los Museos, residencia del célebre busto de la reina Nefertiti, como colofón de la visita oficial a Alemania iniciada el miércoles con la asistencia a un partido de fútbol en el multiétnico barrio de Kreuzberg.
El príncipe heredero y su esposa fueron recibidos en la Isla por su compatriota y amigo, el arquitecto David Chipperfield, responsable de la remodelación del Neues Museum, una de las piezas de ese conjunto monumental, que reabrirá sus puertas el próximo otoño.
En ese museo se está ultimando la habilitación de sus espacios interiores, donde quedará instalado el busto de la reina del Nilo, de más de 3.000 años de antigüedad y que ahora se exhibe, provisionalmente, en la vecina Alte Nationalgalerie.
El Neues Museum quedó parcialmente destruido por los bombardeos aliados durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial y Chipperfield se ha encargado de realizar su remodelación, en un concepto arquitectónico que combina los nuevos materiales con la recuperación de lo que quedó en pie.
La visita a la Isla de los Museos completó el programa del príncipe en Berlín, tras lo cual la comitiva se trasladó a la vecina ciudad de Potsdam para recorrer el palacio y los jardines de Sanssouci.
La primera jornada de Carlos y Camilla en Alemania tuvo un carácter menos protocolario y dio oportunidad para ver a la pareja entre decenas de muchachos en camisetas de fútbol, en Kreuzberg, que les recibieron con banderas inglesas, turcas y alemanas.
