El chileno Fernando González logró hoy la clasificación para cuartos de final de Roland Garros tras deshacerse del estadounidense Robby Ginepri por 7-6(4), 6-3, 6-1 e algo menos de dos horas de juego y aguarda al suizo Roger Federer, que se juega su clasificación frente al francés Julien Benneteau.
Serán los segundos cuartos de final que dispute el santiagués, que ya llegó a esa ronda en 2003, cuando se estrelló frente al español Juan Carlos Ferrero.
El chileno es el último superviviente sudamericano de los 25 que comenzaron el torneo.
González, favorito 24, se deshizo del último superviviente de Estados Unidos en el cuadro individual de Roland Garros, un Ginepri que hasta esta edición no había ganado ningún partido en sus cinco anteriores comparecencias sobre la tierra batida de París.
El chileno mostró que atraviesa un buen momento de forma. Se adjudicó en el juego de desempate la primera manga, la única en la que Ginepri opuso resistencia.
En las dos siguientes aceleró la cadencia y se marchó al partido mientras el cielo de París anunciaba lluvia.
