El recuento de votos del referéndum sobre el Tratado de Lisboa, celebrado este jueves en Irlanda, comenzó hoy a las 08.00 GMT (09.00 hora local) en las 43 circunscripciones de la República, confirmaron fuentes oficiales.
Los resultados finales serán anunciados por el Gobierno hacia media tarde en el Castillo de Dublín, añadieron las fuentes.
Al cierre de los colegios electorales la pasada noche (21.00 GMT), las primeras previsiones sobre la participación ciudadana se situaban en torno al 40 ó 45 por ciento, de acuerdo con estimaciones de la Radiotelevisión Irlandesa (RTE).
Según los expertos, una mayor afluencia a las urnas beneficia, en principio, a los partidarios del Tratado de Lisboa, un texto considerado clave para una Unión Europea ampliada a 27 países.
En la primera consulta celebrada en Irlanda sobre el Tratado de Niza en 2001 apenas un 34,7 por ciento de los ciudadanos ejerció su derecho al voto y acabó rechazando ese texto, mientras que un año después la participación subió hasta del 48,45 por ciento e Irlanda adoptó aquel documento.
