La Dirección General de Farmacia y Productos Sanitarios, dependiente del Ministerio de Sanidad y Consumo, ha autorizado la comercialización y financiación de "Atripla", la primera terapia para el VIH en adultos que reúne en un comprimido diario los tres fármacos más empleados.
Cada pastilla contiene efavirenz, emtricitabina y tenofovir disoproxil fumarato y está comercializado por los laboratorios Bristol-Myers Squibb y Gilead Sciences.
En un comunicado difundido hoy por estas empresas, este fármaco constituye "un punto y aparte en el tratamiento del VIH sida" ya que, como destaca el doctor José María Gatell del Hospital Clínico de Barcelona "no existe otro ejemplo en la historia de la medicina con una evolución terapéutica parecida en sólo 25 años".
Según el doctor Santiago Moreno, del Hospital Ramón y Cajal de Madrid, el nuevo tratamiento "facilita enormemente el cumplimiento y, por tanto, reduce mucho el riesgo de que el virus se haga resistente".
"Que sea un solo comprimido al día es una manera de proteger contra la aparición de resistencias en caso de abandono o mal cumplimiento", añade Moreno quien subraya que la gran beneficiada es la calidad de vida del paciente.
El comunicado señala que este fármaco, distribuido en envases de treinta comprimidos y sujeto a prescripción médica, constituye una combinación a dosis fijas de tres compuestos antirretrovirales que además de simplificar al máximo el tratamiento frente al VIH (un solo comprimido una vez al día) mantiene la eficacia a largo plazo, con unos elevados niveles de supresión de la carga viral.
