Los dos aviones de transporte CASA 295 y los militares destacados en Chad desde junio del pasado año llegarán hoy a España, con lo que concluye la participación española en la misión europea de ayuda humanitaria.
Los dos aviones aterrizarán en el base aérea de Getafe (Madrid) hacia las 11:30 horas y a pie de pista serán recibidos en una ceremonia que estará presidida por el jefe de Estado Mayor del Ejército del Aire (JEMA), general José Jiménez Ruiz, han informado fuentes del Aire.
El 2 junio de 2008 España desplegó en Yamena (Chad) un total de 84 militares y dos aviones de transporte CASA 295, que durante su estancia han realizado cerca de 800 misiones, más de 1.500 horas de vuelo y transportado unas 15.500 personas y más de 700 toneladas de carga.
El pasado 15 de marzo se realizó, como estaba previsto, la Transferencia de Autoridad de la misión de EUFOR a Naciones Unidas.
Sin embargo, los militares españoles han seguido realizando hasta ahora sus trabajos y organizando el repliegue a España del material.
La misión en Chad, que contó con la autorización del Parlamento, respondía a la Resolución 1778 de Naciones Unidas, que autorizó a la UE a desplegar una operación de protección de los civiles, en particular los refugiados y desplazados.
Los soldados españoles se han centrado en facilitar el transporte de personal entre Yamena y la localidad de Abéché, prestar ayuda humanitaria y contribuir a la protección del personal civil -particularmente a desplazados y refugiados-, de instalaciones y equipos de Naciones Unidas.
